Q+A with Lavinia:

Occupation? 

Yoga Teacher

What sparked your interest in yoga, Pilates, and/or barre?

My yoga journey started in Rome, roughly fifteen years ago, with a wonderful Jivamukti teacher whose classes were well-rounded and a fabulous introduction to chanting, yogic philosophy, Sanskrit, meditation and a very dynamic asana practice, typical of this yoga style, influenced by Ashtanga Yoga. Classes were led in a small intimate space in the quaint neighborhood of Trastevere in Rome overlooking an internal courtyard making the atmosphere even more peaceful and conducive to the holistic spiritual practice of yoga. The experience changed my life.

When did you decide to start teaching these practices?

Right after my first teacher training!

What fuels your inspiration and creativity?

Love and Intuition

Favorite pose or workout?

Eka Pada Koundinyasana, translated as 'the One-Footed Pose dedicated to the Sage Koundinya'. It's a favorite pose of mine because it is an invigorating and strengthening arm balance but also involves concentration and finding equilibrium between holding on and letting go in order to hold the pose for longer periods of time. It's a pose that allows you to defy gravity and lengthen the body in all directions permitting you to soar like a bird.

Favorite jams to listen to while teaching?

A mix of diverse, uplifting, inspiring tunes to open the heart! I'm also a musician and have a very deep love for music and take great pleasure mixing ancient spiritual music with contemporary funky beats... Instrumental music with positive lyrics!

Favorite affirmation and or/quote?

As a yogi I'd have to say India!

Places you want to visit?

Nepal and Tibet

Sharing the practices of yoga with my students.

Dynamic. Holistic. Spiritual.

What challenges have you grown from and overcome while teaching and/or while practicing yoga…?

Shyness.

Gelato!

Deepening your connection to yourself which ultimately will deepen all the connections in your life and allow you to feel more at peace and interconnected with everything that surrounds.
